Tourism comes in all shapes and sizes these days and differing visual approaches are used to represent different audiences. It seems all travel is now intrinsically linked to photography and video: so intimately related to being a tourist, people can’t seem to do one without the other, so the imagery used in the promotion of tourism is as varied as the businesses that generate it. The genre encompasses a rich mix of landscape and humankind; a kind of natural, social and cultural documentary observation. A strong set of images is crucial in the marketing and promotion of any successful tourism ventures and a vital part of the hospitality industry. They are used in a wide range of media including brochures, television commercials, postcards and in online campaigns.
